Why I love diving in Otago?

The diversity of diving in Otago is hard to beat. Offshore reefs to the north - Fish and Danger have vast areas to explore and host a large variety of temperate water vertebrates and invertebrates. The Mole is dynamic with its wrecks creating an artificial habitat for the numerous species. The Otago Peninsula from the wreck of the Tyrone to Cape Saunders then Tow and Gull Rocks is washed in the north flowing currents and can offer fantastic visibility and life. White Island, Green Island, Taieri Island and the adjacent reefs surrounded by beautiful white sands are superb. Further south the Akatore Pinnacles and the Nuggets are a must.

Favourite underwater memory?

Ndokendoke Island, Munda, Solomon Islands. We were transported in a long boat to a small island where we off-loaded our dive gear and walked a small distance to an opening in the ground. This was the entrance to a sump that lead all the way down to 36 metres then opened out into a cave which had an exit at 18 metres on the side of the island. Spectacular dive!
