The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.
Successfully completing just the AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows entry into an IE to earn a full PADI Instructor rating.
Dive professionals who hold an instructor rating with another diver training organization may be eligible to enroll directly in the OWSI program. This recognizes prior instructor training and provides a path to become a PADI Instructor.

Theory (eLearning) Independent online study prior to the course in our digital classroom. You will be presented with videos and slides to teach you all need to know before moving on to the practical skills.
Onsite Training There are classroom sessions allowing you to develop your class presentation skills and we will enhance your pool skills before you practise in the ocean. You learn how to instruct Open Water Courses, Advanced Open Water, Rescue and Divemaster courses. Your First Aid instructing skills will also be developed here as well. So once the team thinks you are at a level where you are able to instruct courses, they will send you to the Instructors Exam, which independent examinators from PADI access your skills, including theory exams, standards, class, pool and ocean presentations and rescue skills.

There are other required materials that an Instructor Candidate will need but may have received them during other PADI programs so they have not been included in the IDC Crew-Pak. Please ask your PADI Instructor for the full list of required materials that you will need for the program.

Medical Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months. It is our recommendation that you see a Designated Diving Doctor. Certifications Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or a PADI Assistant Instructor or be an instructor in good standing with another training organization for at least six months (check with us for qualifying credentials.) Be certified as an Emergency First Response Instructor or Medic First Aid InstructorBe certified as a diver for at least six months Have 60 logged dives that include experience in night, deep and navigation diving to participate in the Instructor Development Course. You’ll need 100 logged dives to take the Instructor Exams Have proof of CPR and First Aid training within the last 24 months. The Emergency First Response course meets this requirement

You’ll need 100 logged dives to take the Instructor Exams. Be certified as a diver for at least six months. If you have never dived in cold water before it is necessary to complete a Pre-assessment in our pool prior to getting into the water for any further training. Because we dive in temperate waters our equipment is slightly different to that used in warmer waters and it is vital that we introduce you to this in a pool environment before training begins. If it has been a while since your last dive it is important that we run over some of the important skills you would have learned in your open water course before we head out to the open water. We can do this in a Pre-Assesment session in our onsite pool prior to your training. We will have a look at your log book but please let us know if you want to join this session anyway.
After becoming certified as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor you will be authorized to:
You conduct the entire range of PADI programs from Discover Scuba Diving up to Divemaster.
You may also choose to acquire specialty instructor ratings in areas of interest, such as Digital Underwater Photographer or Enriched Air Diver.
